Our World

This World is not Conclusion

By Emily Dickinson 1830–1886 Emily Dickinson

This World is not Conclusion.
A Species stands beyond—
Invisible, as Music—
But positive, as Sound—
It beckons, and it baffles—
Philosophy—don't know—

And through a Riddle, at the last—
Sagacity, must go—
To guess it, puzzles scholars—

To gain it, Men have borne
Contempt of Generations
And Crucifixion, shown—
Faith slips—and laughs, and rallies—
Blushes, if any see—
Plucks at a twig of Evidence—
And asks a Vane, the way—
Much Gesture, from the Pulpit—
Strong Hallelujahs roll—
Narcotics cannot still the Tooth
That nibbles at the soul—

Scary-Hairy MRSA

There once was a hairy bacillus-
Who came in the lab to kill us
We struck 'im out
Made 'im shout-
What have you done with my pilus!?

(Note -a bacillus is a rod-shaped bacteria.  A pilus is a structure produced by bacteria through which DNA is passed from one bacterial cell to another.  This adaptation is the bacterial mechanism that spreads antibiotic-resistance genes through bacterial populations.  A hairy bacillus has numerous pilli (plural of pilus) that allow the bacterial cells to stick tenaciously to surfaces so that they are very difficult to wash off with soap and water)

Things kids say the day after yesterday

short sleeved pants
cat on the cob
corn on the couch
walks on roaring fires
nights curled up by the beach
riding my body
running my bike
all these things the day after yesterday

Doors and Windows

Trapped in the dungeon of childhood
Making certain doors are locked
Not just door 2,4,6,8
Lest I escape
Close window 12,9,6,3
No light of sun to set me free

Eeny-Meeny-Miny-Moe

Go with wind and ride with butterflies
To current and uncertainty one complies
Chase a tiger catch 'im by the toe-
A tiger will eat you, but kill it
-and peace will swiftly escape you

Creatures Great and Small

all creatures great and small are given the entire world
and to each its own and me and you
entirety is an invitation to the infinity of possibility
consider an elephant many times they weigh
so heavy on the eyes we sometimes look away

-why?

through our lives the landscape unfurls
when we look we see the past
instinct drives us to our immortal half
i hold onto each bit of you as you are to my own
you wish for me and I for you a place of home.
